Influence of Urban Geometry on Thermal Environment of Urban Street Canyons in Hong Kong

چکیده

Hong Kong is a typical high-density city in subtropical climate region, and deep street canyons are among the main features of its urban planning. How geometry influences thermal environment this has become hot topic these days. The height-to-width ratio (H/W) sky view factor (SVF) commonly used to indicate outdoor performance, while previous studies rarely analysed importance bias two influencing factors systematically context. To fill research gap, paper, we chose four sites as objects. Firstly, conducted field investigation calculate (H/W SVF) then measurements collect climatic data, including air temperature, wind speed, relative humidity, finally regression analyse correlation between H/W, SVF, temperature. results following: (1) There greater H/W temperature than SVF by analysis, more effective at improving within canyons. (2) After measurements, it was found that measurement 0.60 6.02, with an average 2.13. (3) In study area, 2.31–2.48 3.35–3.60 had positive dominant influence on 2.09–2.31 > 3.60 inversely related conclusions can provide support for planning Kong.

Urban farming in Hong Kong

Background Suitable indoor green plants have been tested and shown to reduce Volatile Organic Compounds by 80% and carbon dioxide by up to 25% in singe offices, offering significant health benefits to office workers [1,2]. Further studies have also shown that a leafy office relieves stress and reduces negative mood states by up to 60% and just one plant is enough to make a positive difference i...

Wall Estimation from Stereo Vision in Urban Street Canyons

Geometric context has been recognised as important high-level knowledge towards the goal of scene understanding. In this work we present two approaches to estimate the local geometric structure of urban street canyons captured from a head-mounted stereo camera. A dense disparity estimation is the only input for both approaches. First, we show how the left and right building facade can be obtain...

Numerical Investigation on the Effect of Avenue Trees on PM2.5 Dispersion in Urban Street Canyons

The Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) model and revised generalized drift flux model were used to investigate the characteristics of airflow fields and PM2.5 dispersion in street canyons with a variety setting on tree crown morphologies (i.e., conical, spherical, and cylindrical), leaf area densities (LADs = 0.5, 1.5, and 2.5 m2/m3), and street canyon aspect ratios (H/W = 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0...

Mapping and Modeling of Urban Environmental Quality in Hong Kong

This paper demonstrates the application and usage of current remote sensing techniques for estimating and depicting Urban Environmental Quality at detailed level from satellite images. Temperature data derived from Landsat ETM+, Vegetation Index derived from high resolution IKONOS multispectral images, digitized data of the city urban infrastructure and 3-D virtual reality models were integrate...

Seasonal Changing Effect on Airflow and Pollutant Dispersion Characteristics in Urban Street Canyons

In this study, the effect of seasonal variation on air flow and pollutant dispersion characteristics was numerically investigated. A three-dimensional urban canopy model with unit aspect ratio (H/D = 1) was used to calculate surface temperature distribution in the street canyon. Four representative time events (1000 LST, 1300 LST, 1600 LST and 2000 LST) during typical clear summer and winter da...
